Cafe Review: Major Sprout

I love when I have a reason to go to Auckland. Auckland is one of my favourite foodie cities to visit, it has such a wide range of cafes and restaurants to visit from delicious treats to raw vegan cafes.

This weekend I popped up to Auckland for a girls trip to the Heineken Urban Polo and told the girls we must go out for brunch Sunday morning if the head allows us to get out of bed. I have followed Major Sprout on Instagram for quite a while now so I decided it is about time I actually went and checked the cafe out rather the drool over their pictures.

The cafe is located in downtown Auckland, it is super easy which is a bonus in Auckland when I am trying to drive around and follow google maps. Urban List added Major Sprout into their list of prettiest cafes in Auckland and they were not wrong. The atmosphere is to die for, everything feels clean and fresh and with the array of foliage and flowers around, how can you not be at peace here? There are heaps of different seating options including outside, big tables for larger groups, a long window table to allow for some alone time with good food or small tables for an intimate lunch date.Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

I treated myself to the creamy mushrooms for breakfast which included three different types of mushrooms with confit garlic, sourdough bread and poached egg. (Normally at cafes I would get no bread for a lower carb option but I treated myself this morning). My girl date Ceri got the broken eggs and broccolini with zucchini, onion and oregano salsa on The Midnight Bakers’ Freedom Loaf.

My mushrooms were amazing, they were filled with flavour and excitement tasting all the different varieties of mushrooms. I had a bite of Ceri’s freedom loaf and it was a delicious raw, paleo bread which went well with her super healthy breakfast option.

The menu is not extensive, which I enjoy to make decisions easier, but everything on the menu sounded amazing and I wish I could have gotten one of everything and had a bite of it all. It was a tough decision for me between the mushrooms, the omelette or the pancakes. Next time I am going to have to bring someone along who loves pancakes so I can take a nibble and just awe at how pretty they look (from what I’ve seen on Instagram at least).

My coffee with coconut milk was delicious. They also have superfood smoothies to order, juices to takeaway in the fridge cabinet or a juice of the day which today was watermelon with tangelo. It was a wee bit sweet for my liking and I would have loved some mint for extra flavour but it definitely did the job of hydrating Ceri’s “too many wines at the polo dries” this morning.

Overall the cafe lived up to expectation. The staff were amazing and super helpful when we took forever to order. The food was to die for and with the people streaming in as we were leaving I can tell it is a very popular cafe for Aucklanders.

My favourite thing I loved about Major Sprout is the variety they offered. They have a bit of something for everyone from pancakes to big breakfasts with pork belly and sausages. I love being able to go to one cafe and satisfy everyones tastes and needs and Major Sprout does this.

I will definitely be heading back to Major Sprout next time I am in Auckland, especially to check out the pancakes.
